Sustainable Transport

Transport is about more than just cars, trucks, buses and trains. It provides the foundations on which human settlements function, and facilitates commerce between markets. The performance of our transport systems is intricately linked to the health, economic performance, and social fabric of our contemporary cities.

Growing uncertainty about the long-term outlook for transport fuels and the adverse societal impacts of rising levels of traffic congestion in our cities has prompted many communities to seek a better balance between core transport objectives and sustainability outcomes.

We have a deep understanding of the context of sustainable transport and behaviour change challenges. Our services in this area include:

  • Transport and energy policy research: Investigation of the potential policy responses to the growing community challenges associated with unsustainable levels of car dependence and conventional transport fuel dependence in our cities.
  • Program development and facilitation: Design, development and implementation of programs designed to encourage more balanced trip making within communities.
  • Emissions impact assessments: Investigation of the adverse environmental impact of vehicle-related air pollution and greenhouse emissions on the built natural environment.
