Mark Gjerek heads Rare’s Queensland operations. Mark has substantial experience and knowledge of the Australian automotive industry having commenced his career as a product planner for Toyota Australia before taking up a role as a field test engineer for Volvo Trucks, managing tests of new vehicle technologies and systems.

Immediately prior to joining Rare, Mark worked for the NSW State Government managing sustainability programs for businesses in the hospitality and manufacturing sectors. These diverse roles in the public and private sectors have provided Mark with both a technical and a strategic perspective on the relationship between transport and the environment.

Since joining Rare in 2008, Mark has managed a range of projects for both government and the private sector. These projects have been in the areas of alternative fuels, vehicle technologies, transport emissions and strategic fleet assessments. His work with heavy vehicles in particular has contributed to the development of key transport policy and programs at state and federal government levels.
