Uncommon Thinking

Arc Energy, BOC, Santos

Market assessments

Conduct of market assessments of the potential use of natural gas in heavy vehicles in transport in Australia for Arc Energy (June 2006), BOC Limited (July 2007) and Santos (September 2007)

Australian Greenhouse Office (2001-2007)

Alternative Fuels Conversion Program

This project involved the provision of program management and strategic advice on the use of gaseous fuels to reduce greenhouse emissions for the Australian heavy vehicle fleet. The work performed under this major commission extended to the provision of strategic counsel, creation of alliances, management of risk and provision of technical (environmental and transport) advice.

NSW Government (2007)

Transport, greenhouse and air quality – A strategic framework for action

This project involved the development of a strategic framework for the future management of the adverse air quality and greenhouse issues associated with the operation of road transport in New South Wales. The project was jointly sponsored by the Roads and Traffic Authority NSW and the NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change. The paper has been used as an input to the refinement of transport actions under the umbrella of the NSW State Plan.

Papyrus Australia (2007)

Carbon footprint assessment (new technology development)

This project involved providing an independent assessment of the carbon footprint of the Papyrus production process, relative to the traditional paper manufacturing process. The study needed to be of sufficient rigour to be used as a resource document that would support a future grant application for the establishment of a full-scale demonstration plant for its innovative paper production process. Papyrus will need to provide evidence of the greenhouse benefits that could potentially be derived from the widespread application of their patented technology within the Australian (and international) paper market.

Roads and Traffic Authority NSW (2006)

Emissions offset project - Towards a voluntary green registration scheme

This project involved the strategic assessment of emissions offset schemes worldwide, in terms of both environmental value and operational integrity. The research undertaken for this study was then used to advise the NSW Government on a potential framework for the operation of a voluntary emissions offset scheme for New South Wales motorists. The work was undertaken in co-operation with Margaree Consultants (Canada).

Australian Sustainable and Renewable Energy Industry (2005)

Strategic energy review

This project involved the facilitation of a strategic review to identify strategic directions for the industry in light of the Federal Government’s decision not to extend the mandatory renewable energy targets (MRET). The work involved the facilitation of a uniform direction for the three major industry bodies: REGA, BCSE and AusWEA.

Brisbane City Council

Sustainable Energy Investment Fund grant project

This project involved assisting Council’s pollution prevention and transport divisions with the evaluation of the environmental benefits of biodiesel and then preparing a project plan for the conduct of a trial in the Brisbane metropolitan area. In addition, an application was prepared for funding under the Queensland Sustainable Energy Industry Fund (QSEIF). In May 2005, the Council was advised that their application had been successful and preliminary work is currently under way.
